IEC TC 25: Quantities and units
15 June 2017
As one of the oldest technical committees at the IEC, TC 25 is responsible for preparing International Standards on quantities and units to be used generally in electrical technology, as well as to review the use of quantities and units in other IEC Standards. Universal symbols help overcome language barriers and allow people from anywhere in the world to understand functionalities and safety precautions. They are absolutely essential for designing and constructing every kind of equipment, as well as for facilitating international trade. The Standards developed by IEC TC 25 are relevant to all IEC Standards, and therefore all other technical committees and subcommittees.
IEC TC 25 maintains a close collaboration with IEC TC 1: Terminology, and is in constant liaison with ISO/TC 12: Quantities and units, the International Organization for Legal Metrology (OIML), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
At present, TC 25 is focusing on the needs of telecommunications (electromagnetic and optical technology), as well as information technology (data transmission, processing and storage), together with the growing field related to e-health and power technology.
